Women and Girls

womens world cu

With the Womens Rugby League World Cup just around the corner in 2013 NOW is the time to get involved with the female game.

This summer’s Festival of World Cups will include the Women’s World Cup which will be a hugely inspiring event which aims to enthuse the next generation of female rugby league talent. Kirklees will host fixtures in the Women’s World Cup Festival in July with games being played at the Tetley’s Stadium in Dewsbury and the LoveRugbyLeague.com Stadium in Batley.

In the build-up to the international tournaments there will be a focus in Kirklees on promoting and developing the game to encourage girls and women in the area to get involved in this exciting sport. Members of the England women’s team will lead sessions in schools as part of the Mission: Active Kirklees activity programme and local community clubs will be supported to build and offer opportunities for girls to start and continue playing the game.

For more information on the Festival of World Cups please visit www.rlfowc2013.com or join them on twitter @FOWC2013.

Women in League

RFL Head of Participation Julia Lee said: “Rugby League has a proud history as an inclusive sport and there are a huge variety of opportunities for women to get involved across both the grassroots and professional game.

“One of the RFL’s key objectives is to increase the number of women playing Rugby League but there are also a number of other ways for women to get involved in the sport as volunteers, coaches, match officials or administrators.

“We have launched the Women in League section of the RFL website profiling women such as Match Official Sarah Bennison and Widnes Vikings Chief Executive Julie Gaskell which I hope will inspire more women to get involved.”
