Giants captain feeling confident ahead of huge Semi-Final

Huddersfield Giants captain Danny Brough says the team will be putting everything into tomorrow’s First Utility Super League Play-Off Semi-Final against Wigan (8pm kick-off).

The Giants are just 80 minutes away from a debut Grand Final appearance, and Brough is feeling confident ahead of the knock-out tie against the Warriors.

“These games are the reason why you play Rugby League,” said Brough, who is sponsored by John Eyre – Huddersfield’s Premier Golf Coach at Woodsome. “It’s the semi-final of the Grand Final, so it’s do or die, there are no second chances, which wasn’t the case last week.

“We were all gutted to lose that game, but that disappointment didn’t last too long at all. As soon as we’d had our say in the dressing room, it was straight down to planning for Wigan – the game that really matters.

“We know we were good enough to win that game, and by learning from our mistakes we know we can put that right and win against Wigan. We will be going there feeling confident.

“You don’t play all season not to want this game. It is something we definitely want. We will put our bodies on the line and we know it’s a tough ask – they haven’t lost at home for 20 games – but that’s got to end sometime and hopefully we’re the team to do it. We have to work for each other and want it more than anyone else.”

Brough was selected in the Super League Dream Team for the second time in his career earlier this week, and currently leads the league’s try assists charts with 31 so far this year. He was pleased to be selected in the line-up alongside Giants winger Jermaine McGillvary.

“It’s really pleasing to get picked again,” added Brough. “It’s a sign that you’ve been playing well and playing consistently all year. I think that apart from a couple of games when I’ve been fairly quiet, I’ve not had a bad year and helped set up a number of tries. I have enjoyed it, though, have set up a lot of tries and hopefully now can kick on in that extra last step to get to Old Trafford.

“I couldn’t be happier for Jerry on his selection. He’s been absolutely outstanding towards the back end of the year, and I know how much he wants to put in another massive game again at Wigan.”
