Foster Care

Following the news from Wakefield that Danny Brough has now agreed a two-year contract to join the West Yorkshire club, Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis has paid tribute to the 35-year-old’s immense contribution to the Claret and Gold:

“Many fans have asked over the years what happens when Broughy leaves and that time has now come. Simon (Woolford) has brought in two new half backs in Tom Holmes and Matt Frawley to complement Lee Gaskell, Olly Russel and Izaac Farrell and of course he used Jordan Turner in the halves on occasions too. I think today though we need to pay tribute to Danny and wish him well at his new club and reflect on a stellar career here. He has the longer-term security at Wakefield who were willing to grant this to him and he, is of course, still fondly remembered for his time there. Danny has played around 250 games for the Giants and scored a multitude of points as we all know and ticked off many records along the way. He has been an instrumental and key figure in the side since joining back in 2010. His family have supported him every step of the way and we’ve seen the boys grow up here with Jenna watching some great teams and non-more so than in 2013 when Danny was the captain who lifted our first ever Super League Leaders Shield and of course became that year’s Man of Steel. He will surely go down in the Club’s history books as one of our greatest ever players in the modern era. Our work begins on Monday which is day one of our pre-season with the players and coaching staff to fill the void he leaves and having spoken to a goodly number I know that they are relishing the challenge ahead. In bringing Scott Grix back to the club he has a specific remit to coach and develop the young full-backs McIntosh and Senior and the younger halves Holmes, Russell and Farrell. This is a key area for us and every club and its great to have someone who has such a good rapport with the players, knows the club inside and out and of course was a fine player himself at the very top level for over 15 years and is highly respected by all.”
