Roberts joins Salford on Loan

Ollie Roberts has joined Salford Red Devils on loan with immediate effect

Huddersfield Giants second row forward Oliver Roberts has joined Salford on loan deal with immediate effect.

The 25 year old Irish International has made 95 appearances for the Claret and Gold since joining in 2015 but only 14 since the start of 2019.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis said “In chatting to Oliver recently it’s clear he is frustrated not to be in Super League week in week out and having starred in his one game on dual registration for Halifax he clearly caught the eye of the Salford club who were looking to strengthen the pack. 

"For our part we are reasonably healthy in the forwards with only Chester Butler sidelined as we speak and he’s expected back into contention in a fortnight or so thus we felt able to release Oliver to Salford to get some top flight game time. As in most loan deals we have the right of recall should we and Oliver wish to invoke that but at this stage the plan is for the season. 

"That said we all know how quickly things can change in the game and they key thing I think is for Oliver to get back playing week in week out in the top flight and recapturing the form that we all know he is capable of.”
