Giants Sign 2020 Grand Finalist
Ian Watson has added to his 2021 forward pack, and brought further options in the middle and wider, by signing towering international forward Joe Greenwood on a 2-year deal from Wigan Warriors.
At 6’3 and 112 kg the England international will also add vast experience to the squad having made the journey to the John Smith’s stadium via St Helens, Wigan Warriors and the Gold Coast Titans.
Oldham born Greenwood made his Betfred Super League debut with St Helens in 2012 and went on to make 77 appearances for the Saints and was part of the Super League grand final winning squad in 2014. A stint in the NRL followed with the Gold Coast Titans in 2017 before Joe returned to England in 2018 with the Wigan Warriors making another Grand Final winning appearance that season which led to the Saddleworth Rangers Junior making his England debut against New Zealand in 2018. After a short loan spell with the Leeds club, Greenwood returned to Wigan and played in the epic 2020 Betfred Super League Grand Final
Huddersfield Giants Head Coach, Ian Watson said: “Joe Greenwood is an awesome signing for us at Huddersfield and again is another recruit who will increase the Quality & Experience of our team. Joe is an International player who can play front row like he did against New Zealand in 2018 & in the back row like he has done for Saints, Wigan & Gold Coast in the NRL. I have no doubts that Joe will be pushing hard for a World Cup spot in 2021.”
“Joe is a Proven winner and is coming into his Prime years as a footballer which really excites me. He’s a player I’m looking forward to working with he has a great size & attacking ability with his offloading & a steely defensive attitude which will improve our Team.”

The Coach has had a lot of success and speaking to a few players that he’s had underneath him they’ve said that he brings the best out of you and especially me coming in to the prime of my career that’s where I want to be, and I want to push for more success.
“The way that Ian Watson spoke to me, the team will be pushing to win everything, and I feel with the recruitment going the way it is that’s definitely possible, like I said It’s exciting times ahead and we can definitely push for silverware.”
