Reload: Giants 64-12 Tigers

By Jack Robinson

Ahead of our clash against Castleford on Friday evening, we take a look back at a meeting between the two sides back in 2008. We scored twelve tries in all, with ten players getting on the scoresheet, as we beat the Tigers 64-12 in West Yorkshire.

A 7th minute try from current Giants assistant coach, Luke Robinson, gave us the lead at the John Smith’s Stadium. Rod Jensen then increased our lead a few minutes later. Kevin Brown added our third try of the half, before Steve Snitch added our fourth before the break. Shane Elford scored our fifth try of the first half, however, the Tigers pulled one back, as Michael Wainwright scored their first try of the game.

Chris Thorman added four of the five conversions for the Giants, whilst Joe Westermann added one for Castleford, as we led 28-6 at the break.

We picked up where we left off in the second half, Jamahl Lolesi scoring a second half brace for us, Chris Thorman, Paul Whaturia, Keith Mason and a second from Luke Robinson have us a comfortable win at the John Smith’s Stadium. A late try by Peter Lupton for the Tigers gave them their second of the game, before Andy Raleigh finished off the rout, by adding our 12th and final try of the game.

Thorman added four more goals in the second half, to make it eight conversions for the day for our captain, it also meant he scored 20 of our points in this game. Westermann added his second conversion of the game for the visitors, with their late try.

64-12 the game finished in West Yorkshire, as we beat the Tigers on their return to the Betfred Super League.
