Huddersfield Giants suffered their largest defeat of the Betfred Super League season as they were comfortably beaten by Wakefield Trinity at Belle Vue.

The hosts struck first in the match after 10 minutes, with Ireland International Liam Kay scoring in the left-hand corner, which was successfully converted by Trin to give the home side an early 6-0 lead.

The Giants dominated the field position and possession for the rest of the quarter, and broke through courtesy of Aidan Sezer, but Jacob Miller hooked the Giants man as he was about to touch the ball down, an act that he was reward for with ten minutes in the cooler for a professional foul. Huddersfield pressed to get themselves over for the levelling try, but after back-to-back Wakefield sets, Tanginoa crossed over to double Trinity's lead.

When Miller returned to the field, he began to dictate the game and the man advantage galvanised Wakefield to two quick tries from Joe Westerman, in the 31st and 33rd minute successively, to double their lead again to 24 points, with Lino dispatching four from four in a desperate first half for the Giants.

Huddersfield looked out of sorts throughout the second half, and struggled to make an impact on the Trinity line. The hot weather and mistakes from both sides zapped much of the momentum from both sides attack throughout the second half, with Wakefield allowed to play conservatively courtesy of their first half lead.

Another break down the middle of the pitch allowed Liam Kay to waltz in at the Giants left-hand side, and a loose pass with 10 minutes left on the clock allowed Lino to run unmoved by the Giants defence to score directly under the posts.

The Giants would rally late on and score a couple of tries of their own, courtesy of James Gavet and Jake Wardle, but ultimately it would be in vein. A tough day at the office for Huddersfield.
