Jones believes key components are coming together

Josh Jones is impressed with the start the boys have made as they return to pre-season and states they are “further ahead” than they were at this point last year.

“I’ve enjoyed it” said Jones.

“Pretty tired at the moment, but it’s nice to be back in with the boys. We’ve had a good week’s training. Lots of conditioning, lots of running and ball-work. It was nice to get a ball back in our hands. We are a lot further ahead than we were at this point last year. It’s nice to be starting again for this season.

“We know about how we play, how Watto wants us to play. All our key components are coming together for this year.”

Pre-season is the toughest period of training for Super League teams. It’s when the squad come back from their winter breaks and preparations begin for the 2022 season.

When asked what the aims of pre-season were, Jones insists it is about “Getting fit and; as a collective, understanding our principles better. We’ve got new players coming in, so it’s nice to introduce them to the way we want to do things as a team and show them how we want the spine to lead us around the field. We’re getting stronger and hopefully we can be pushing for some honours next season.”

The Giants have acquired several new players including Tui Lolohea, Chris Hill and Theo Fage for the upcoming season. When asked how they had settled in, Jones states the new lads have slotted in well.

“They’re a great bunch of blokes. They’re all big, big boys so it’s been good to have them on board and do some conditioning. They’re a welcome addition.”
