Huddersfield Giants picked up their first two Betfred Super League points as they battled to an 0-8 win vs Wakefield Trinity!

Ian Watson’s men started the strongest, with back-to-back sets on Wakefield’s line, but couldn’t make the pressure count.

Both sides exchanged sets for large periods of the opening 40, with Trinity losing key winger Lewis Murphy halfway through the first half.

Mason Lino tested both Leroy Cudjoe and Jermaine McGillvary with high kicks, but both stood up to the task with pressure coming from Samisoni Langi.

Within the last ten minutes, The Giants started to assert themselves more, with continuous pressure on the Wakefield whitewash.

Esan Marsters tested the Trinity right edge numerous occasions, but strong defence held him up, and with time up the scores were still level in a Rugby League rarity.

Minutes into the second half, the first points came from the boot of Tui Lolohea, as Theo Fages was taken late, we immediately pointed for the two.

The Tongan international did the rest and slotted over the penalty goal.

Wakefield came again, but more superb defence from the Giants backline kept them out, Jerry plucking a high Mason Lino pass out of the air and breaking up field.

It felt like an eternity, but the first try did eventually come, as smart play from Will Pryce and Tui Lolohea, saw the ball pass through hands, and end up with Joe Greenwood who powered over to score.

We then continued to dominate, with Will Pryce dancing and coming close to the line, yet again was held up short, with Leroy Cudjoe also coming close.

In what was an immense defensive display from the hand working Giants, Joe Greenwood’s singular try would decide the game.

The final hooter sounded as we ran out 0-8 winners to pick up our first two points of the season!
