Match Report | Hull KR

Huddersfield Giants were defeated 28-0 by Hull Kingston Rovers on Friday evening.

Ian Watson reshuffled his pack ahead of the visit to Craven Park to take on in-form Hull KR, who had won their last five consecutive games.

Leroy Cudjoe, Innes Senior and Sam Hewitt were all brought in, in place of Sam Halsall, Jermaine McGillvary and Harvey Livett.

The early exchanges were dominated with errors, as both sides struggled to hold onto the ball in rainy conditions.

Jake Connor took control and rolled a ball in-behind for Esan Marsters to chase but couldn’t reach out and score and the ball went dead.

Ryan Hall opened the scoring for Hull on the back of the Giants error, as Jez Litten kicked behind the Giants’ defence and touched down for Rovers first points of the evening.

Ian Watson’s men would break up-field, and have a full set on the Robins line, but disaster struck as Jake Connor looked to loop a pass out to Leroy Cudjoe, it was short and Ryan Hall took the pass to race 90m to score.

Rowan Milnes, added another two points on for Hull Kingston Rovers before the break after the Giants were guilty at play the ball, and a penalty was awarded which the half slotted over to leave the scores at 14-0.

The did push for a try towards the end of the half, but they couldn't find the line. At half-time the score remained 14 - 0.

At the start of the second half things didn't improve for the Giants. In the first seven minutes with almost every possession set the Giants were at the end of an error. And eventually this lead to another KR try. James Batchelor received the ball on the right and managed to force his way over the line. The try was converted and with 30 minutes to go the score was 20 - 0 to Hull KR.

The Giants had their first positive set of the half 15 minutes in. Kevin Naiqama picked up on a loose ball but was brought down 10 meters out, the Giants shifted over to the left hand side of the field where Oliver Wilson looked to have broken through but was brought down just before the line.

Despite efforts, Hull KR would score twice through Opacic and Batchelor once again, with both conversions missed.

An awful day for the Giants. Final score Hull KR 28 - 0 Giants.

Thank you to everyone who made the long journey.
