Huddersfield Giants very own Liam Johnson has been selected by England Youth coach Stuart Barrow to captain his country against France which will take place at the Stobart Stadium, Widnes on Good Friday (6.30pm).

Johnson a forward, will remarkably make his debut for the England Youth side and has immediately been named captain against their French counterparts in the first of a two-Test series, with the second Test at Wakefield’s Rapid Solicitor Stadium on Tuesday April 2 (2.30pm).

Being named captain on his first start for his country is testament to the talent of Johnson, who is joined by another Giants youngster, Frazer Morris in the squad for the two test series.

Head Coach Barrow is confident his squad has what it takes: “We’ve got a lot of talented players in this group and it hasn’t been easy to select the squad for the first Test.

“A lot of these players have never experienced not being selected before so it’s a challenge to them to see how they respond to that disappointment and push the rest of the squad for a place in Test two.

“I’m confident we have all the talent to put in two big performances over the next few days and hopefully we’ll get the results that we are hoping for.”
