Jermaine McGillvary reacts to selection for Denver test

Huddersfield Giants star winger Jermaine McGillvary spoke to about his delight at being named in England’s 19 man squad to take on New Zealand in Denver for the mid-season test:

“I’m very happy, it’s always a pleasure to be called up for your country. I don’t think we’ve ever played in America as an England Rugby League team so it’s a special game and an honour. It’s really good to be picked as I’ve had an up and down season with injuries, so it’s great to be picked and hopefully I can repay the favour.

“Jamie Peacock rang and I was excited and happy, but I wasn’t crying or anything like that! It was a proud moment, as it is any time you get called up by your country.

“There’s a lot of good wingers in my position who are at their prime age and some young lads who are playing outstandingly and are the future of the international team. But as long as I get the chance and opportunity I will always try my best and I don’t think I’ve let my country down yet, so hopefully that will continue.

“I think there’s a bit of pressure on me now after the World Cup. I’ve always given my best and tried my heart out, so I’ll continue to do the same as long as I’m picked.

“My England highlight has got to be my debut. I’ll never forget that. I never thought I’d even be a professional rugby player never mind putting on the England shirt. I’ve had some memorable games since then with the World Cup final, the game in Tonga and the game against New Zealand in Huddersfield when all my family came. I’ve had some memorable moments but putting on that England shirt for the first time is a very proud memory.”

The Giants take on Catalans Dragons on Friday, and McGillvary encouraged supporters to make it to the match as tickets are FREE when ordering online in advance:

“It’s the biggest game of the season so far. We’re both in a similar position, both in similar form and hopefully we can get a big crowd out. The game is free for everyone, whether you’re from the town or not, so hopefully we can get a good crowd to help us get the two points.”

Make the most of FREE admission for our next home match against Catalans Dragons on Friday 15th June when ordering online in advance!

Huddersfield Giants Chairman Ken Davy has opened the doors of the John Smith's Stadium for the Betfred Super League match against Catalans Dragons on Friday 15th June, kick off 7:45pm and made a staggering FREE entry admission for all who claim ahead of gameday.

Get your tickets before 12 midday on Friday 15th June from the Club Store or online  ( ) and make the most of FREE entry to the John Smith’s Stadium for the Catalans clash.

The Chairman commented: “I believe we all need to show as a town that we are all fully behind Simon Woolford and his plans to take this great club forward. I can think of nothing better to greet him on his first home Super League game than a huge crowd and a newly refurbished John Smith’s Stadium pitch. The free entry only applies until midday on Friday 15th June, after which the price will be £10. We have done this in the past to great success and in all reality all we ask for as a Club from the new supporter is their data by pre-booking the tickets ideally online via or at the Club Shop here at the Stadium. Given the low season ticket pricing policy we implemented last year this fits perfectly for our marketing strategy and I am looking forward to a bumper take-up and a great evening.”

Celebrate the arrival of Simon Woolford with us by using #WelcomeWoolford on social media and make Woolford’s first home Super League match an evening to remember.

Join the Giants for a Friday night under the lights and create an atmosphere for our new Head Coach at the John Smith’s Stadium for FREE when we take on the Dragons.
