YOUNGSTERS STEP UP INTO FIRST TEAM FOLD

Three Academy Giants will step up into First Team training after signing new contracts at the club

Jude Jackson, Stan Hobson and Lewis Bottomley have signed new deals at the club that will see them step up and train with the first team on a full time basis.

Jackson represented Yorkshire in the recent Academy Origin games while Hobson won every award at the Academy Award evening, apart from top try scorer which was taken by Lewis Jagger. Bottomley is showing huge potential too, being a key player in the Academy over the last two years.

Steve Fox is pleased to see these lads step up to the First team, alongside Lewis Jagger who recently signed a long term deal with the club. Here's what he had to say about the players individually, and also how the Giants Youth Programme is going from strength to strength,

"Before talking about the individual players, I want to express my appreciation for everyone who has played a part in their development over the last four years. What these players have achieved is a reflection not only of their own hard work and commitment, but also of the dedication of our coaching staff, strength and conditioning coaches, physios, support staff and scouts. Everyone involved has helped these young players flourish and develop into the players they are today.

Lewis Bottomley, Stan Hobson and Jude Jackson all came through the Siddal junior system, so I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at the club for the support they have given us and the wider Giants youth programme. All three players are very different in terms of their styles and strengths, but they have each made a significant contribution to our youth programme.

Lewis has worked incredibly hard over the last four years to improve his game and is now starting to show the true potential that our scouts and I recognised when he first joined the programme.

Stan has had an outstanding season and was recognised at our Academy presentation, picking up the HGSA Top Tackler award, Players’ Player and Coaches’ Player.

Jude has also continued to progress and has recently earned selection for the Yorkshire Origin squad, which is another fantastic achievement. All three players have signed two-year deals with the first team.

Lewis Jagger was initially a Saddleworth Rangers junior before moving to Birstall Victoria following Saddleworth’s folding. Many fans will already be familiar with Lewis after he made his first-team debut last season, but it is easy to forget just how young he is.

Lewis was still eligible to play Academy rugby this year, but his performances have seen him establish himself as a regular first-team player, featuring in numerous games throughout the season. Despite only playing a handful of Academy games, he still finished as our top try scorer and has also earned himself a place in the Yorkshire Origin squad.

His progression into the first team has been excellent to see, and he has recently signed a contract extension, which is another well-deserved reward for the hard work he has put into his development.

When you look back at what our youth programme has achieved over the last few years, it is something we can all be extremely proud of as a club. To have produced eight Academy players who have progressed to sign first-team contracts over the last two years is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the strength of our youth programme. More importantly, it genuinely excites me about what the future holds.

Congratulations to all four players, and a huge thank you to every member of staff who has played a part in their development. This is another important milestone for our youth programme, and hopefully the beginning of many more successful journeys into the first team."
