MAGIC GUIDE TO LIVERPOOL

Check out all the sites and sounds of the Magic Weekend's New Host City as the best weekend in Rugby League travels to Liverpool

The best weekend of the year is almost here! Next month The Giants will be heading to one of the most famous stadiums in the world, Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, for The Dacia Magic Weekend where we will be taking on Hull FC. Kick off for the game is 16:30 on the 25th May.

Check out this guide to all the sites, sounds and points of interest for anyone travelling to Liverpool.

How to get there?

Car –If you decide to get on the motorway for this game, it will take you around 1hr 30 minutes from the John Smith’s Stadium to Anfield, approximately 59 miles.

Train – If a train is more suited to you, you can get a direct train from Huddersfield railway station to Liverpool Lime Street, that means no changes! This route will roughly take you the same time 1hr 25 minutes, approximately 58 miles.

Liverpool Lime Street station to Anfield – The drive from Liverpool Lime Street to Anfield is around 10 minutes, approximately 2 miles. There are taxis also available to catch from the station.

Walking from Lime Street takes about 40 minutes.

Alternatively, you could catch a bus too. The nearest bus stops are Victoria Street and Greek Street; both are around a 5-10-minute walk from the station. It takes around 20 minutes to get to the stadium.

If you want to catch a bus from Liverpool City centre catch the 26 bus from Liverpool ONE bus station, or the 17 from Queen Square bus station.

What can you do in Liverpool?

Now you’ve got there it’s time to make the most out of your stay. Luckily there are plenty of things to get up to in Liverpool!

The Royal Albert Dock is one of Liverpool’s and the UK’s most famous and scenic locations. It is located on Liverpool’s World Heritage waterfront site. It holds many restaurants, museums and galleries so it will certainly be worth a visit! Check out sites such as the Beatles Story, a look through one of the most famous bands in modern history, marvel at the Liver Building, a unique architectural wonder on the seafront, visit an unparralleled collection of modern and contempory art at the Tate Liverpool or visit the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

Head to the Baltic Market for independent street food, from waffles to street tacos. On a Sunday, craft arts markets are held, meaining Giants staying for the weekend can pick up gifts for the family upon their return! 

There's also architectural sites to enjoy, like the two catherals in the city - the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral or Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, each unique in style but sharing a common wonderous magnificence. 

If you're in Liverpool for the day or the weekend, you'll probably want to test out the local bar scene, and the city doesn't disappoint. Check out The Sandon, the birthplace of Liverpool FC or the King Charles around Anfield for a pre-match beer. 

Tickets and Travel News

Magic Weekend is a weekend not to be missed - the Giants have seen success in recent years, winning eight of 12 matches to be the second most successful Club at the landmark event..

Concession prices apply to senior citizens aged 65 and over, students with valid ID, serving military and NHS staff. The junior price applies to juniors aged 16 and under.

Giants on Tour Coach Travel is priced at £15 and departs from the John Smith’s Stadium at 10am.
