SCOUTING REPORT: CATALANS DRAGONS

All the information about our opposition in #TheDecider, this Friday 13th September

Catalans Dragons head to the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday night, knowing that they can no longer make the end of season playoffs. Meanwhile, we know that a win will secure our place in the Betfred Super League next season, regardless of results elsewhere.

With the additions of the likes of Sam Tomkins and Sam Kasiano to their ranks this season, the Dragons were tipped to make the top five but it wasn’t to be for the French outfit, who will finish the season in 7th place whatever the result is on Friday night.

The highlight of the Dragons’ season would likely be their win over the Wigan Warriors at the Nou Camp, the first ever Rugby League game to be played there, 33-16.

They have lost their last four Betfred Super League games, their last win came in a 30-10 win over Challenge Cup winners, Warrington, on August 3rd.

Star Player – Sam Tomkins

The English fullback was the 2012 Steve Prescott Man of Steel whilst playing for the Wigan Warriors. In 2014 he moved to the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL but returned to Wigan for the 2016 season.

Tomkins has played in 23 of the Dragons’ 28 Betfred Super League games so far this season. He has scored nine tries, as well as adding 17 assists for his side.

He has made 1079 metres in 2019, with an average gain of 4.86 metres per carry. The former Wigan man has also taken over goal-kicking duties in his debut season for the club, kicking 71 goals. He has also made 66 tackle busts.
