GIANTS AGAIN PROMOTE FROM ACADEMY

Ronan Michael signs one-year first-team contract with the club after a year with the Academy

Huddersfield Giants academy prop forward Ronan Michael has signed a one year full time contract with the club. Michael hails from Ballbriggan in Ireland and impressed the club with his attitude and commitment, even paying his own air fare to join with his team mates at the club. 

Michael only took up the game in 2017, playing for Longhorns RL in Ashbourne before being selected for Ireland in the European Championships in 2018. He came to Huddersfield in 2019, having signed a one-year academy contract after a successful trial and has impressed the Giants set-up since his arrival. 

Andy Kelly, Rugby Manager at Huddersfield Giants said: "He paid his own way over and really wanted the chance to play Rugby League and his determination and self-driven force attracted us to Ronan. His capacity to learn and take on information that he needs and digest is fantastic. He's honest, respectful and hard-working - they are all our trademarks. 

"Given that the coaching staff have to help him and develop him in his journey to learn the game, the reason we've given him a first team contract is 100% to do with his drive and effort and commitment to being successful. It's an opportunity that he has and I don't think he wants to waste a second of it."

Ronan Michael said "I'm buzzing to have signed. It's an amazing opportunity to play with a great bunch of blokes. I think I've had a good dig this year and I'm ready to get in with the lads and get well involved with pre-season. I know it will be tough, but I'm very grateful for the opportunity.

"I just hope what I put in gets reciprocated and I can show to the first team coaches that I can put in the effort and I'll be ready for the call up. I've appreciated the effort that they've put in with me - I've learned a lot along the way"
