INTERNATIONAL WEEKEND: ROUND UP

With Giants in action all over the International break, we round up all the news from a busy weekend.

It was a busy weekend for the Giants in the International break, with Nines action, the Knights facing off against Jamaica with plenty of Giants involved and England Academy recording a comprehensive win.

Jermaine McGillvary scored twice for England's Nines side at the Rugby League World Cup Nines on Friday and Saturday, touching down in the 25-4 win over Wales and the 22-6 defeat to New Zealand.

The Wall of White made it through the group, only losing to Lebanon in the short form of the game but despite Jerry's touchdown, England bowed out at the Semi Final stage.

Elsewhere, Giants fans got a sneak preview of James 'The Enforcer' Gavet as he was a late call up for the Samoan National Team.

Australia beat New Zealand 24-10 to win the inaugural Men's competition, while New Zealand Ferns beat the Jillaroos in the Women's Final.

Back home, Robson Stevens & Aiden McGowen represented England Academy in a comprehensive 62-0 win over Wales Academy over the weekend. The two were called up after excellent seasons with the Giants Under 19s. Aiden McGowen was amongst the scorers for England.

Over 7,000 watched the first appearance from the Jamaican National Team, preparing for the 2021 World Cup, face off against England Knights at Headingley on Sunday, with Giants representing both sides. New recruit Ashton Golding started at full-back for the Reggae Warriors alongside back-rower Michael Lawrence, while Kruise Leeming and Matty English came off the bench for the Knights in a 38-6 win for the Wall of White.
