The Sezer Column: Big test of our progress

Aidan Sezer talks last week's postponement, training for the Salford match and their expectations in his weekly column

First of all, I would like to say how disappointed the whole squad was that Sunday's fixture was postponed. From what we were told, the river near the stadium was incredibly close to bursting it's banks and the right decision was made, however we wanted to get in front of our home crowd and show the progress we've made over pre-season and coming into Round 1. We're itching to play in front of the home crowd and can't wait to do it on Sunday 1st March against Wigan Warriors.

Secondly, I'd like to offer my congratulations to all those who completed the Walk for Rob. In terrible conditions, you braved the weather and completed an incredible achievement walking from Headingley to the John Smith's Stadium. Congratulations to all those who took part and you should be really proud of yourselves.

Now our attention moves to our first Sky fixture of the year, facing off against last years Grand Finalists, Salford Red Devils. They're an incredibly well-drilled team and Ian Watson has done a fantastic job there to create a really organised and strong side that is capable of beating anyone. We're, as always, going to have to be at our best to come back with the victory but we're confident that we can do that.

Key to this season so far has been emphasising our need to be consistent and work to maintain high standards, and from that perspective, a game against last years Grand Finalists represents a really good test for our progress since the end of last season. It would be great for the boys and for the fans if we can make it two-from-two tomorrow night, and we know if we play to our ability, we can do that.

Finally, as always, thanks for your continued support of this great club. See you tonight,

Aidan Sezer
