With Regret: Brian Curry

Brian Curry, the former Huddersfield full-back and Head Coach, has died aged 84.

Brian was born on 28 June 1936. He died on May 3 at Castle Grange Care Home, Newsome. Previously he had lived in Brockholes with his wife Rita.

Curry made his debut in August 1957 in a charity match against Halifax following a sparkling amateur career which had seen him captaining the England international and Yorkshire county side and A-team trials.

His first full-team debut came in the first league game of the 1957-58 season, against Bradford Northern where he kicked 9 goals in a 33-15 win.

In 1966, he left the club to join Oldham, playing three seasons at the Roughyeds, kicking 145 goals and scoring three times in 53 appearances before leaving to join Blackpool Borough in 1969.

He would return to Huddersfield in June 1971 before suffering a severely dislocated neck vertebrae that would bring his career to an end. He would later spend two spells in charge of the club and two spells on the coaching staff.

At the time of retirement, he had scored 1,003 points - 473 goals, 19 tries in 212 appearances and was remembered by the Huddersfield supporters as one of the best full-backs ever signed by the club.

His funeral is scheduled for 21 May (no time stated as yet) at Huddersfield Crematorium. Close Family only.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with the Curry family at this difficult time.
