HGCT provide activity and meals for youngsters
This program supports children to enjoy a variety of sports through half term with a nutritious meal
Huddersfield Giants Community Trust helped provide a safe and controlled environment with various sporting activities and free meals to vulnerable children through October Half Term.
Working closely and supported by Kirklees Council, we created opportunities for children to engage in physical activity, all delivered from HGCT coaches including a healthy meal.
Our holiday camps are a source of fun and enjoyment involving physical activity with sports such as Rugby, Multisports, Cheerleading, Dance & Gymnastics. Last week our base was at our home, The Zone, in the centre of Huddersfield.
During half term we saw over 250 children attend our holiday schemes. HGCT is grateful to offer these opportunities to the local community for children to enjoy in physical activity.
Head of Sport Dan Wilczynski comments about support to our community:
“It is more important than ever that we make sure the children’s needs are at the heart of everything we do as a community Trust. There is a significant amount of children living with social deprivation, participating in less activity both in and out of school, increasing issues with weight, health and wellbeing.
Both though summer and October we have facilitated a way for young people to reconnect in a safe environment and enjoy a range of activities that are fun and help to build fundamental skills.
I am really pleased that HGCT through the support of the council have managed to support local families and care over the holidays. We have had two very successful holiday programmes. Now we are able to improve and cater for more families and children each time we deliver the provision.
Supporting families in October half term was a fantastic addition to the work we did in the summer and we want to continue to make a real difference.
HGCT are very proud to support important projects in the community and clubs throughout"
