Yates wins Player of the Month

Huddersfield Giants forward Luke Yates has capped a tremendous month of Rugby for the Giants with his first Player of the Month award.

Yates was included in the Player of the Month shortlist for the first time in July and is the first forward to pick up the award this season.

The hard working forward has been a constant figure in the Huddersfield squad and a huge influence in the club’s recent resurgence.

Joining the Giants at the end of 2020 alongside Head Coach Ian Watson, Yates has continued to impress after successful stints in Betfred Super League with London Broncos and Salford Red Devils.

His immense durability and tireless efforts in the middle have been duly awarded – Yates averaged 43 tackles and 143 metres in July, as well as playing at least 70 minutes in each of the Giants three games last month.

Despite his eye-catching contributions in July, the award came as a surprise to Yates.

He explained: “It came as a bit of a shock, but I’m very grateful for the fans voting in for me. It’s probably more of a reflection of how well the playing group have come together at the Giants, playing tough and competing really hard on and off the pitch.

“This award is definitely owed to my teammates - I’m just playing my role.”

Congratulations to Luke on winning July’s Player of the Month award.
