Williams to depart Giants

Huddersfield Giants Academy Coach Kim Williams will leave the club to take up an opportunity in Australia. The 49 year old has spent the last two seasons in Huddersfield and overseen the development of a number of the clubs promising youngsters.

Giants Managing Director, Richard Thewlis paid tribute to Williams: “Kim was a great appointment for us and he delivered what we thought he would and more. The Pandemic scuppered many plans and caused havoc within the age range he coached however he battled on always in a positive manner despite the many hurdles that through no ones fault presented themselves.

"He will be a huge loss to us however an opportunity has arisen that he simply cant turn down and he will leave with our very best wishes for the future and thanks for all he has done. A great many players owe him their thanks and will look back with great pleasure at their time under Kim's tutelage.

"We also of course at the same time lose his wife Caron who was working successfully in the commercial department and had built up a great rapport with our partners and sponsors so it is again a time of change for the club. We had been aware of the situation that arose for them in Australia for some time so its not unexpected and are working on the way forward as head into the new 2022 BetFred Super League campaign.

"Kim in typical style wanted nothing to distract the players during the year and they went on to complete a very successful academy season which had there been a league table would have seen us challenging at the top end before he had the very difficult and emotional task to tell them that he has had to move on back in Australia which he will physically in the next few weeks. ”

Kim Williams said “My 2 years here at the Giants have been two of the most enjoyable of my career. I have had the privilege of coaching a fantastic group of young men that have shown tremendous commitment and resilience throughout these testing times.

"I am very proud to see that 6 of my players over the two year period progressed onto 1st Grade contracts at the Giants with numerous more who will find their pathways at various Championship or League 1 clubs.  I wish them all the best and it has been heart-breaking to have to tell them goodbye.

"Personally I would like to thank Richard and Andy and all the staff at the Giants for making me so welcome from day one with the club. I would also like to thank the Huddersfield Giants Supporters Association and the Huddersfield Giants Community Trust for their outstanding support of the Academy program. And finally the biggest thank you to my brilliant staff of Adam Megretton, Steve Fox, Charlotte Pedley and Brandon Sargerson, and also the support of Pete Connell, Will Carlos, Pat Robertson and Steve Hardisty."
