Leroy Cudjoe was the Giants hero on their trip to Hull KR as the local legend got his 1st, 2nd and 3rd tries of the season all in a manic victory away at Craven Park where the Giants ran out 38-10 winners.
The start of the game, however, did not go in the Giants favour. The very first kick of the match went straight to touch and from the restart Hull KR found the try line on their first attack thanks to Matt Parcell getting onto a deflected grubber kick. 4-0 to the hosts.
Minutes later the host thought they had increased their lead when another kick through found Frankie Halton who thought he had scored their second try of the day only to be found to have dropped the ball by the video referee.
This decision saw the game slowly begin to turn. The Giants looked out of sorts for the first 15 minutes, on par for the next 15 and then for the final 10 minutes things changed dramatically.
Owen Trout drove through the centre, set the ball up for Tui Lolohea and he produced a brilliant grubber kick himself which found Leroy Cudjoe, who had all the time in the world, to get his first try of the season. Pryce found the posts beautifully and suddenly the Giants had the lead. 4-6.
Only minutes later Leroy was over again! Pryce put a fantastic kick over the top the bounce deserved everyone apart from Leroy who latched on and found the floor for a 2nd time in as many minutes. Meaning it was KR 6 – 10 Giants as the lads went into the break.
The start of the 2nd half was the complete opposite to the first. Hull KR took a signature short kick-off, but the ball was allowed to bounce, and Luke Yates took full advantage charging through with no opposition to find the line after only 15 seconds of the first half. Pryce took another brilliant kick, and it was suddenly 16-4 to the Giants.
But things were only just getting started, no more than two minutes later a brilliant back and forth move from the Giants left Ricky Leutele with space to run and he had all the time in the world to even celebrate before he put the ball down. Giants lead 20-4 now.
The game managed to calm for all but 10 minutes, off the back of a scrum Jerry took the ball and with him he took all the Hull KR defenders, he beautifully offloaded to Leroy who went in for his 3rd try of the game! Pryce added the extras and the Giants after only 13 minutes of the 2nd half were winning 26-4.
Another 10 minutes past and another Giants try came. This time, Tui pegged Hull KR back with a fantastic run and kick which forced a goal-line drop out, and off the back of another short kick, Pryce took the ball on the right and skipped his way through for only his 2nd try of the season! Pryce converted his own try and the Giants lead was now 32-4.
But the Giants saved the best till last. Two minutes later and off of another short kick-off eventually saw Jerry get the ball with space on the right and he galloped through a gap to find the line for the 200th Giants Super League try of his career. Pryce got the conversion taking the Giants up to 38 – 4.
A late resurgence was far to late for Hull KR but they did manage to get one more try meaning that at the final whistle the Giants left Craven Park as 38-10 victors with another crucial 2 points on their quest for the Playoffs. 6 wins in-a-row for the Giants in the Super League. Next Up Castleford Tigers.
