RAMPANT GIANTS CRUISE TO VICTORY OVER TIGERS | MATCH REPORT

Huddersfield Giants recorded their first home victory of the season, as they cruised to a 36-6 victory over Castleford Tigers at the John Smith's Stadium!

Castleford, with a point to prove, started the fastest out of the two sides and makeshift hooker George Lawler look advantage of lacklustre Giants defending to crash over early on.

The lead didn’t last long, however as the old stager Chris McQueen picked up where he left off from 2022 and crashed over, taking advantage of quick play from hooker Nathan Peats.

The Giants were then awarded a penalty 40m out from the visitors try line, and to put ourselves in the lead, Olly Russell stepped up and slotted the goal.

Peats, who played the whole 40, was constantly looking for gaps and spaces at play-the-ball and darted up field to set the scene for our second score.

Fast play on the Tigers try line, saw Marsters and Cudjoe go close on the left-hand side, but it was to be the right side which paid dividends for the Giants as Will Pryce stepped and scored.

There was time for off-season signing Jake Bibby to grab his first score for the club, as Will Pryce was involved again as he slipped a kick in-behind and Jake Bibby was fastest to react and score.

Olly Russell, with minutes to go then slotted another penalty goal as Chris McQueen looked for another try to add to his tally but was taken high.

That was how the half finished with the Huddersfield Giants in a commanding lead 20-6, however Theo Fages left the field early on, with Joe Greenwood also replaced with two suspected injuries.

After the interval, the scoring didn’t stop, as Tui showed some great passing movement as he sent Chris McQueen through a gap to score his second.

Will Pryce then saw another gap in the Tigers defence, and exploited it as he raced through, but lost the ball at the crucial moment.

The try would come to the Giants however, as Leroy was sent racing away down the wing as he’s done throughout the years and slipped a delicate kick in for Tui Lolohea to score.

Leroy would then score one of his own, as Esan Marsters showed great hands to send him in at the corner, smashing Tigers defender Jack Broadbent out of his way to score.

Ian Watson’s men looked for more scores as Will Pryce, who looked as sharp as ever after coming on from the interchange bench, was all wrapped up by Miller as he looked to break the visitor’s line.

That was the last action, as The Giants ran out heavy winners, defeating Andy Last’s Castleford Tigers 36-4.
