Match Report | Wigan Warriors
Huddersfield Giants lost out in a battling performance to Wigan Warriors 12-14 at the John Smith's Stadium.
Olly Russell got the scoreboard ticking over early on, after Will Pryce was taken late as he looked to slip in Tui Lolohea, his half partner slotted over the penalty goal.
Soon after, a Giants error allowed Cade Cust to kick in-behind and Bevan French touched down for Wigan, the first try of the game.
After Ian Watson’s men were awarded another penalty for a high shot on Olly Wilson by Mike Cooper, with the sticks in range Olly Russell stepped up and levelled the scores once again.
Another error in defence saw former Giant Jake Wardle score Wigan’s second try and push the visitors out into the lead once again, touching down in the corner.
With seconds remaining of the half, Seb Ikahihifo on his first Huddersfield appearance of 2023, crashed into the Wigan line and won a penalty which Olly Russell converted, leaving the score at 6-8 going into the break.
After the interval, we hit the front as Liam Marshall spilled a kick in his own in-goal area and Kevin Naiqama collected the loose ball and scored his first try for the club.
Wigan, would then re-take the lead as Jake Wardle collected a high Harry Smith kick and sent in Bevan French for his second try of the game.
Ian Watson’s men had their chances, but couldn’t break through a resolute Warriors defence, as Jake Bibby went close in the corner, but couldn’t find a way through.
