GIANTS MAKE IT THREE IN A ROW VS FC

Huddersfield Giants made it a superb three victories in a row as a resilient display saw us defeat Hull FC 19-12.

Ian Watson named an unchanged team to the one that defeated Wakefield last time out, with Hull FC the visitors to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Both teams tested each other early on with some high, spiral kicks that Sam Halsall and his opposite number Darnell McIntosh dealt with.

It was to be the Giants who struck first, through a superb 40/20 from Jake Connor laid the platform for the opening try.

Jake Connor involved again as he looped a pass out to Jermaine McGillvary who crashed over in the corner, Olly Russell with a superb touchline conversion.

Hull hit back soon after, through Adam Swift, as Jake Clifford broke through the centre of the park, he fed the winger to race away and score, levelling the scoreboard.

The visitors would then take the lead, as Danny Houghton probed the Giants line, his quick pass made space for forward Brad Fash to race over underneath the posts.

Liam Sutcliffe converted again, to push FC 6 points clear.

Ian Watson’s men did not give up however, as FC looked to take control of the game, Olly Russell spotted a gap behind Davy Litten, and kicked over the top of Tui Lolohea to score his third try in two games.

Olly Russell added the extras to leave the scores level heading into the break in what was a half of quality from both sides.

The second half was as tight as the first, with Huddersfield looking the most likely to score but Hull with some opportunities of their own.

Jake Connor, against his former club looked increasing dangerous, causing havoc with his kicks and testing the FC wingers.

One would pay off, as try scorer Adam Swift couldn’t take one which gave us some field advantage to build on, after a scrappy opening twenty in the second half.

With some incessant pressure from the Giants and a penalty, a sublime pass from Chris Hill bang on the Hull FC line saw our try scoring machine Chris McQueen race through and put us into the lead.

This try sent the stadium into ecstasy, as we took the lead for the second time, and a crucial win was on the cards at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Jake Clifford went for a short kick off after the try, but it backfired as Sam Halsall collected and then soon after, won us a penalty to give us field position.

Camped on the visitor’s line with nine minutes remaining, Olly Russell took the game into his hands and slotted a drop goal, pushing us into a two try lead, and that would see us home.

We held on, with a late effort from Matty English but he couldn’t get the ball down, as Ian Watson’s men made it three wins in a row for the first time this season.
