Huddersfield Giants lost out 8-32 to Salford Red Devils at the John Smith's Stadium.

Esan Marsters was selected to replace the injured Ash Golding on the wing, while captain Luke Yates returned after a foot injury.

The first ten minutes was all Salford, but mistakes in play saw them waste many chances in front of the Giants posts, some great defence from the returning Luke Yates also saw them kept at bay.

Jake Bibby would then regather an Olly Russell kick to score a try vs his former club, putting the Giants into the lead.

Salford hit back almost immediately, as former Giants Ryan Brierely took a crash ball to race over the line.

Several penalties would then help the Ian Watson’s men gain some field position=, the latest penalty being converted by Olly Russell, giving us the lead back, 8-6.

Before the half was over, however the visitors regained the lead, through Sam Stone, who spotted some lacklustre defending on the last and barged through Sam Hewitt to score, the score would stay 8-12 going into the break.

The second half started the same as the first, a cagey affair, but the visitors would break the deadlock first, as a ball was allowed to bounce, and Sam Stone was the first to react to an Andy Ackers grubber through and scored his second of the game.

Salford would strike again, as a kick through from Brodie Croft saw Ken Sio win the race to score and extend the Red Devils lead to 8-24.

After Sam Halsall looked to have scored in the corner, after a smart kick from Olly Russell forced a goal line drop out, Paul Rowley’s men would break down the field and score again, through Chris Atkin.

The interchange hooker supported a break by Kallum Watkins and took the ball to race over underneath the posts.

A late penalty on the hooter was converted by Marc Sneyd, leaving the scores at 8-32.

That’s how the game would end as Salford took home the two points, as the top six looking a real difficulty for the Giants to achieve now.
