GIANTS HAMMER HULL FC IN FINAL AWAY GAME
Huddersfield Giants put nine tries past Hull FC at the MKM Stadium on their way to a huge 20-52 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Giants, looking to end 2023 with a positive record against the Black and Whites, took the lead early on, as a floated pass was batted wide by Kevin Naiqama, this leaving Jermaine McGillvary to stroll in at the corner.
Hull FC hit back in quick succession, however as some poor defending from the Giants saw Tex Hoy send Tui Lolohea and Adam Milner for a dummy and stroll in underneath the posts.
The home side crossed again soon after, as a fast break led by Andre Savelio saw former Giant Darnell McIntosh finish off the move.
We wouldn’t be behind for long, however, as the man who loves a score at the MKM Stadium, Esan Marsters darted through a gap and brought us on level terms.
As the Giants started to ramp up the pressure on Hull FC, we forced our fourth drop out of the game, Jake Clifford abandoning the short ones, but it wouldn’t stop us.
Seb Ikahihifo, a man on a mission, took Andre Savelio and Tex Hoy over the line to score in an eye-catching effort from the big man.
Jake Connor, to boos and jeers from the home fans, added the goal, leaving us with a six-point advantage at the break. 10-16.
Hull FC would momentarily claw themselves back into the affair, as Andre Savelio crashed through a gap in the Giants defence to score.
After this home try, we would never look back, after a precession of scores from Ian Watson’s men saw us take control.
First, it was to be Kevin Naqiama, as him and Tui Lolohea linked up, the latter dabbing a kick in-behind which was scooped up by Kevin, and he crossed underneath the posts.
Moments later, he would have a second, as Tui was involved again, the influential half with a mesmerising offload which saw the Fijian International crash over.
Two more scores, from full-back Will Pryce then followed, one from a smart kick from Jake Connor, then a fast-flowing break from Jermaine McGillvary, with Will passing Darnell McIntosh to race home, leaving the scores at 14-40.
Kevin Naiqama then rounded off an excellent afternoon for himself and the Giants, crashing through the FC defence to wrap up his hat-trick, leaving him on 14 Super League tries in his first season at the Giants.
With time almost over, the FC defence was at sixes and sevens, Adam O’Brien spotted a gap, and was just short, but Tui Lolohea sent Jermaine McGillvary in for his second try with moments to go.
Scott Taylor on his final Hull FC home game scored on the hooter, in a nice moment for the home side, but it was only to be a consolation as The Giants ran out heavy winners on a satisfying afternoon.
