Amelia Brown earns call up to England National Performance Squad

Huddersfield Giants Women are proud to announce winger Amelia Brown has been called up to the England Rugby League National Performance Squad.

Amelia joined the Giants in 2021, debuting against Warrington in the Challenge Cup. She made a barnstorming for the first try of her top-level career, setting the tone for seasons to come.

The same year, she claimed a staggering 7 tries in a Cup clash against Hull FC.

The winger was nominated for this year’s BWSL’s ‘Young Player of the Year’ award, following a stellar Women’s Super League campaign that saw her pick up hat-tricks against Leeds and Warrington.

She has also recently penned a professional contract with the Giants following 49 career tries from 33 appearances.

Amelia has previously been added to the England Knights Squad, earning promotion to the Senior side, and has progressed through the RFL's Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme.

This will be her maiden call-up to the England Women's National Performance Squad, becoming the second Giant after Bethan Oates in 2022 to make the squad.

Amelia, on the incredible milestone in her career, said:

“It’s every player's dream to be able to play for their country in any sport.

“I’ve not been playing for as long as some of the girls, so I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to learn and develop my game at a high level.

“It's now great to be able to represent the Giants at national level and to inspire younger players in the community to get involved.”

England Women’s Head Coach Stuart Barrow added:

“I’m pleased to be able to give some new players a chance in both the Knights and Senior England set-up this year, and it’s especially exciting given that so many of them have been involved in both the Knights and DiSE programmes.

“The size and depth of each squad proves just how much the Betfred Women’s Super League is continuing to improve and there are some fantastic young talents in this year’s Knights squad.

“I’m expecting these players to keep on developing and pushing for a place in the senior team as the season progresses.”
