IAN WATSON PREVIEWS DEWSBURY CLASH

Head Coach Ian Watson previews the Giants' first pre-season clash as they take on Betfred Championship side Dewsbury Rams on Sunday.

Ahead of Sunday, we sat down with Ian Watson to discuss the upcoming game against Dewsbury Rams.

"Training's been good, we've just come back from Malaga which was really useful, the lads are ahead of where they were last season which is a promising sign, we're looking forward to the games now and building up some match fitness.

"Championship sides give you a good game, especially at their own place, it's about mentality and resilience, you've got to work together, roll your sleeves up and match the physicality of Dewsbury, we know they're going to give us a real tough game and we have to be prepared for that.

"On Darius Carter and Jack Hudson, they've been included as a reward for how they've been over the pre-season, they've trained really well and improved by giving us the extra outside backs we've needed, they 100% deserve the chance to be given a taste of senior rugby.

"Dewsbury have already had two good games, one vs Batley and one vs Featherstone who are both strong sides, so they're probably ahead of where we are right at this moment in terms of match fitness, but it will test us during periods of the game, it will also answer some questions of the squad that we have.

"On Liam and Kieran Rush, it's a lovely touch for the family to see them both out there on the field, they won't be worried about each other on the day, they'll both do their jobs to the highest of their ability but it's a great gesture for their family during their tough time."
