MATCH REPORT | DEWSBURY RAMS (PRE-SEASON)

Huddersfield Giants began their pre-season campaign with a convincing 0-36 victory over Dewsbury Rams, with a number of new faces impressing.

Ian Watson named a strong starting 13, including the likes of Elliot Wallis, Luke Yates, Hugo Salabio and Ash Golding.

All players came through the 80 minutes unscathed, and all got plenty of minutes in the tank.

Straight from the off, the Giants started in the front foot, and a penalty was awarded as Seb Ikahihifo was lifted from his feet, and we took full advantage of the field position.

Tui Lolohea floated a ball out wide for Elliot Wallis to dive in at the corner, opening his unofficial account for the Giants in spectacular fashion.

After a few errors disrupted the flow of our game, another try was forthcoming, as the pressure on the Rams line told.

Kieran Rush darted through the Rams line, and touched down, the try awarded by his brother Liam Rush to the delight of their family watching in the stands, after a special request was made for this game earlier in the week.

Olly Russell battled through the wind, but kicked both conversions for the opening two tries to leave the scores at 0-12.

Harvey Livett then got in on the act, as a crash ball from Matty English saw him stroll over, Esan Marsters then following up with a try of his own soon after as the Giants pushed themselves out into a healthy lead.

The score stood at 0-22 going into the break, however Jack Billington was sin-binned on the hooter after his involvement in a scuffle.

With the Giants now playing into the wind in the second-half, numerous interchanges were made, Esan Marsters stayed out though and grabbed another try from a Kieran Rush kick, doubling his tally for the afternoon.

The other second-rower then strolled over, following in the footsteps of Harvey Livett, this time it was Sam Hewitt, who took advantage of some lacklustre Rams defence, and McGowan sent him through a gap to extend the lead.

As more interchanges were made, Esan Marsters grabbed his hat-trick, as a welcome day for the back went from good to great.

Darius Carter and Jack Hudson were both then awarded their first-team debut, as they were introduced with fifteen minutes left to play, a great moment for the Giants pathway system.

In wind and rain, the game came to a close with errors from both teams and Huddersfield Giants ran out 0-36 winners, and roll onto London Broncos at home next week, with tickets on-sale now.
