LONDON BRONCOS MATCH REPORT | PRE-SEASON

Huddersfield Giants made it two victories in pre-season with a comprehensive 50-16 victory over London Broncos at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ian Watson selected another strong starting 13  with Adam Clune, Jack Murchie, Jake Connor, Kevin Naiqama and Adam Milner receiving their first starts of the year.

With no injuries to report, all players got valuable minutes in the tank ready for the 2024 campaign.

The opening few minutes were back-and-forth until a looping pass from Jake Connor sent Adam Swift in, scoring our first try of the game, making it 4-0.  Just a minute later, Jack Murchie breezed past the visitors back line to score his first try of 2024 as Jake Connor smoothly converted to put us 10-0 in front as the Giants began to look comfortable.

The London side began to grow into the game when they found a breakthrough after being awarded a penalty which saw Lee Kershaw find the try line. Oli Leyland converted to open London’s tally for the day and reduced the gap to 10-6.

The Giants did not sit back and continued to press them back into their area with some important pressure from Kevin Naiqama.

In the 20th minute, we put together another beautiful passage of play with passes down the right-hand side with Kevin Naiqama assisting Elliot Wallis, who grabbed his second try in pre-season.

The lads continued to attack, and we got our reward as a floated ball over the top created space, which allowed Elliot Wallis to grab his second try of the game.

Towards the end of the first half, the Broncos continued to fight back with tries scored by Dan Hoyes and Lee Kershaw, which Oli Leyland converted. The score going into half-time was 20-16.

As the sun began to set in the second half, the Giants came out dominant and made a stamp of authority on the game quickly with a high pass from Tui Lolohea, who gave Adam Swift a walk-in.

This was shortly followed up by a brilliant run by Tui Lolohea resulting in an open path to the try line as we began to gain a healthy 32-16 lead over the Broncos.

As the time rolled on, our defence got stronger with Jake Bibby throwing in some powerful tackles and an incredible interception, as London broke through the middle, Tui positioned himself to intercept the pass which would have sent the visitors in for a try.

The Giants continued to have full control over the game, as Adam Swift scored again to complete his hat-trick, while Jake Bibby and Harvey Livett also got in on the act towards the final minutes of the game.

Huddersfield Giants ran out 50-16 winners at the John Smith's Stadium, a comprehensive pre-season work out and victory for Ian Watson’s men.
