Giants Women's Megan Preston makes Ireland National Squad

Huddersfield Giants Women are proud to announce versatile playmaker Meg Preston has been called up to Matty Kennerson's Ireland Women's 2024 Squad.

Meg debuted for the Giants last year, going on to make 8 top-level appearances, making a great impact as a well-respected playmaker in the Huddersfield pack.

She more recently featured in our astonishing 74-0 win over Hull KR at the John Smith's Stadium.

Ireland will take on Wales in April and either Italy or the Netherlands in Group A of the Women's RL World Cup European Qualifiers this summer.

The winners of each group will qualify for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, the second-placed nations will meet in a play-off game in October to determine which team represents Europe in 2025’s World Series for the final 2026 Rugby League World Cup berth.

Preston joins fellow Women's Super League regulars Bettie Lambert (York Valkyrie), Fran Copley (Featherstone Rovers) and Pip Birchall (St Helens).

On her call-up, Preston said:

"I'm absolutely buzzing about being selected! I'm grateful for this massive opportunity and would like to thank the head coach Matty Kennerson for it.

I'm looking forward to the chance of playing in a World Cup qualifier, and hopefully the World Cup afterwards.

There's still time until then, so we need to focus on the 'now', but representing Ireland at a World Cup is such an exciting prospect and I'll be working hard to make sure I'm on the plane to Australia.

I'm excited to see what the year has to hold from an Ireland and Huddersfield perspective!"
