Cross-code star Jess Dadds signs for Giants Women

Huddersfield Giants Women are please to announce Somerset-born back Jess Dadds has signed for Lori Halloran’s side following a successful trial period.

Jess’ rugby career started at Weston-Super-Mare alongside little sister Lottie before progressing to Yatton and then Winscombe, winning the U18 National Cup with eldest sister Millie.

She then moved to Newcastle to study at Northumbria University, where she captained their BUCS National League team.

She was also a regular in county age group sides for Somerset.

On top of that, Dadds played for Darlington Mowden Park (DMP Sharks) and at the top level in rugby union in the Premier 15s League. She was a part of the Bristol Bears Academy prior to her Sharks stint.

A cross-code star, Dadds recently featured in the 2021 Women’s Super League for Featherstone Rovers where she took on the Giants in their Shield running campaign. Appearing at fullback and centre for the Rovers, Jess will act as a versatile back line player.

She then returned to play for Novocastrians in the 15-a-side game and led Akuma Beavers in the elite Sevens series.

On signing for the Giants, Jess said:

“I'm so excited to be joining the Giants in such a key time for the side. Lori [Halloran] and the team are building something special and it's something I'm very pleased to be a part of.

“I played for two seasons at Featherstone Rovers, which was my first introduction to league. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and played some brilliant games against top teams, including the WSL Shield Final against Warrington in 2022.

“It’s brilliant to now be back playing in such a competitive league with a new bunch of girls who have some serious potential.

“Switching from Union to League is tough but so rewarding. Personally I move positions so my role changes quite a bit, but I’m looking forward to learning new things.

“The Huddersfield girls have been incredibly welcoming and are always happy to translate when I don’t quite understand!”

Head Coach Lori Halloran added:

"Jess has impressed the coaching staff during the short time that she has been training with us.

"It's clear she has a great technical understanding of the game to say her main code recently has been union.

"Jess brings a great level of communication which will only improve our performances on the pitch.

I'm pleased to have signed Jess and look forward to having her on board!"

Jess will claim the #28 shirt and is available for selection against her former side this Saturday (12pm) at Millenium Stadium.
