Giants Women vs Wigan Warriors | Match Preview

Lori Halloran's Huddersfield Giants Women will take on Wigan Warriors at the John Smith's Stadium (12pm) this Saturday.

PREVIOUS FIXTURES ⚔️

Out of the 6 games of the clash, the Giants have been unable to get the better of the Warriors.

The most recent game, a 26-6 defeat at Robin Park Arena, saw prop Emma Wilkinson cross the line. A clean break that ignited it all was started by Wilkinson herself, before crashing under the sticks for the 4 points. An easy conversion by Frankie Townend.

GIANTS WOMEN UPDATE 📖

The side recently competed in the Women's Nines Festival, taking 2 wins from 3. The only loss: Wigan. A 16-4 defeat with Amy Bennett the only scorer.

Amelia Brown picked up a brace against a London side, containing former Giants Andrea Mena and Ellie Taylor. Forwards Jess Harrap and Georgia Hampshaw made contributions to the 36-11 scoreline.

Victory against Salford (26-0) included a try from winger Hannah Goddard, scoring in one of her first games back since recovering from an ACL injury. Ruby Tyson also made her unofficial debut for the side and is in the squad for this Saturday.

Lori Halloran has acquired the loan signings of Dani McGifford and Grace Arrowsmith who will come into the starting side straight away. To see the full 21-player squad, click here.

THE OPPOSITION 🍒

Wigan had a shake-up in the coaching ranks having former Warriors second-rower Denis Betts take the lead of head. Genna Banks, former Leigh Miners winger, was also named as Head of Youth Performance for the Women and Girls Pathway. Her daughter, Grace, was entrusted with the Warriors' #1 jersey following the departure of Beri Salihi.

The Cherry & Whites have been busy on-field too, having signed Alice Fisher from the Giants, Brogan Evans from Salford and Ellise Derbyshire from Leigh. Mia-Jayne Atherton and Isabel Rowe have been promoted from the club's academy to the first team.

Following international retirement, Vicky Molyneux remains the 13 for Wigan, with Anna Davies the only current Warriors representative in the National Performance Squad. Grace Banks, Molly Jones, Eva Hunter and Mary Coleman were also added to the 2024 Women's Knights Squad.

Wigan currently sit second in the WSL table following a 18-4 victory over Barrow and a 54-12 thrashing of Featherstone.

Denis Betts has named his 21-player squad, which can be found here.
