MATCH PREVIEW | LEIGH LEOPARDS | ROUND 12

Read our Match Preview ahead of our matchup vs the Leopards this evening.
THE STORY SO FAR π
After an extremely disappointing performance in the Challenge Cup, we will look to pick ourselves up and go again vs Leigh Leopards at home this Friday, as we look for the League double after defeating Adrian Lam's side at the Leopards Den in Round 1.
Giants fans will remember a memorable performance as we defeated repeat set after set and came out winners on the evening, we will need another gusty performance full of heart tonight to stand any chance of securing a much needed two points, which could possibly move us up the table and closer to the top six.
We've also not tasted victory in the league at home yet this season, a trend the Giants must buck to have any chance of being 'the best of the rest' in the league and finishing in the play-off positions come September, defeats to St Helens, Hull KR, Salford and Wigan have seen no points picked up at the John Smith's Stadium in 2024.
Boosted by the news of Tui Lolohea securing his future at the club for another two years, he could be pivotal in this evening's game, after missing the first meeting between the sides through suspension, the creative playmaker could be the difference between the sides.
THE OPPOSITION π
Leigh Leopards, after a top six finish and a Challenge Cup in 2023, started 2024 in poor form, with numerous defeats and only one win vs Hull FC, however since then, they have picked up victories vs Catalans Dragons and Salford Red Devils, two quality sides.
There maybe a reason for this however, three of Adrian Lam's key men have missed large chunks of the season, this being Tom Amone, Edwin Ipape and John Asiata. All three proved to be huge misses for the side during their losing run, and since both Amone and Ipape have returned to the side, it's no coincidence that their form has picked up.
Both players will no doubt play a huge part in determining the winner this evening, with Amone's powerful running not gone unnoticed, with the forward securing a move to the NRL next season.
Their previous game was a huge 40-12 win over Salford Red Devils, as they tore apart Paul Rowley's side in what could be described as an unexpected result, but you cannot write off the quality Leigh have and how well they can play when they are on their game.
Son of Head Coach Adrian, Lachlan Lam is also regarded as one of the best in the business, the Giants will have to keep him quiet on Friday night.
Here, is the 'Opta Stats Pack' for this week's match-up. π
β Huddersfield Giants have won seven of their previous 10 Super League matches against Leigh Leopards
(L3), including a 16-8 victory when they last met earlier this season (16 February 2024); the Giants have
scored exactly 16 points on the day in each of their last two meetings in that span (W1 L1).
β Leigh Leopards are undefeated in their last three Super League matches (W2 D1), after winning only one
of their nine games in the competition prior to that span (L8); the last and only time they recorded a
longer unbeaten run was a seven-match span from April to June in 2023 (W7).
β Leigh Leopards have made 5.9 line breaks per game in the 2024 Super League season, more than any
other team in the competition; in addition, the Leopards have scored six tries starting possession from a
5th tackle handover β two more than any other team in the campaign.
β Adam Swift (Huddersfield Giants) has scored 11 tries in his last eight Super League matches, recording
at least one try in each of those eight games; although, heβs scored only one try across his last three
appearances in the competition against Leigh Leopards.
β Josh Charnley (Leigh Leopards) has been directly involved in nine tries in his last five Super League
matches (6 tries, 3 try assists), scoring at least one try in each of those five games; heβs scored five tries
across his last three appearances against Huddersfield Giants in the competition.
WHO TO WATCH π
- Lachlan Lam - Dynamic half Lam has made a name for himself in Super League, numerous try assists and clean breaks has seen him become a key figure.
- Tom Amone - Towering forward Amone is a match for any side in the League, he'll look to stamp his mark on the game on Friday.
- Matt Moylan - Since moving to full-back, Moylan has found a home and will look to continue his good form vs the Giants.
