Job Vacancy - Head of Athletic Performance

The Huddersfield Giants can announce the intended recruitment of a new Head of Athletic Performance for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
As the club transitions to its new training facility at the Laund Hill Community Club in 2025/2026, this role will be instrumental in facilitating the move and harnessing the advantages it brings to both athletic performance and the broader rugby program.
This is an exceptional opportunity to develop and refine the athletic performance program while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to oversee the physical growth of all players under contract with the Huddersfield Giants.
This position will be offered on a 2-year contract

Role & Purpose of Position
- Manage & lead the athletic performance department in the design, implementation & evaluation in collaboration with the Director of Rugby, Head Coach & other department leads.
- Manage & lead the athletic performance department in the design, implementation & evaluation of the athletic performance programme.
- Ensure training is designed to fulfil the needs of the Huddersfield Giants game model.
- Maximise individual player physical development & performance.
Key Qualities
Essential
- Recognised degree in Human Movement, Sport & Exercise Science, Physical Education or similar.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience LEADING an athletic performance (strength & conditioning) program in an elite rugby environment.
- Demonstrate a significant level of knowledge and experience designing and programming (periodising), delivering (coaching & leading) and managing an athletic performance training systems:
To Include.
- Knowledge & experience in coaching, programming & periodising for specific strength, power & hypertrophy.
- Knowledge & experience in coaching, programming & periodising for plyometric, linear speed, multidirectional speed.
- Knowledge & experience around the programming & periodisation of general & specific conditioning.
- Knowledge & experience around the programming & coaching of injury prevention & regeneration.
- Demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge & experience in their development and management of sports science systems (GPS, monitoring & profiling (force plates) & testing).
Key Qualities
Desirable
- Post Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Physical Education, Human Movement or Sport & Exercise Science (or related field).
- Recognised certifications in strength & conditioning related competence (UKSCA, NSCA, ASCA etc)
- Experience of leading Rugby League athletic performance programmes (NRL, Super League, International).
General Responsibilities
- Carry out all aspects of the athletic performance programme inc field & gym based programming.
- Work with the Coaching & Medical staff to design training to optimise player & programme development.
- Manage & lead athletic performance staff in both the 1 Team, Academy & Scholarship. st
- Ensure alignment in programming and development principles across the scholarship through the 1ST team pathway.
- Organise data to support KPI’s in line with & to support the wider Huddersfield Giants programme.
- Assist in game day operations.
- Ensure a collaborative approach is implemented across the multi-disciplinary support staff.
- Ensure player development is benchmarked and evidenced in line with athletic performance KPI’s.
- Ensure excellent levels of performance in all areas of strength & conditioning (strength, speed, power, agility, injury prevention, conditioning, recovery)
