Cullimore Promoted to lead Scholarship

The Giants are proud to announce that Chris Cullimore has been named as Head Coach of the Huddersfield Giants Scholarship, taking over from Johnny Wainhouse who has decided to step aside.

An accomplished player in his own right, Cullimore has been involved in the talent pathway as a volunteer for over 10 years. Chris is well liked and respected at the club having also held positions as a development officer at the Huddersfield Giants Community Trust.

Cullimore has a wealth of experience in the professional ranks and the community game having played for Halifax, Keighley and most recently the Midlands Hurricanes. Chris also came through the Giants system having played for the Under 21’s so knows exactly what it takes to be successful in the youth set up.

Giants Director of Rugby Andy Kelly said “We’re extremely pleased that Chris Cullimore has agreed to take on the role of Head Coach of the Giants scholarship pathway. Chris has worked with the club as a volunteer for as long as I have been at the Giants. I am very proud to be able to hand over to him the fantastic talent we have in this group and further up the pathway. Chris has had a close working relationship with both Steve Fox and Johnny Wainhouse and I am confident ne can continue to deliver the high standards that have been set.

I would also at this stage like to put on record our thanks to Johnny Wainhouse for his hard work over the past season, everyone here at the Giants would like to wish him all the best for the future”

Chris Cullimore said “I am proud and excited to take on this role, having worked in the scholarship set-up for more than 10 years. It’s a privilege to now lead the programme and continue developing the next generation of Giants talent.

I’d like to thank Andy Kelly and Steve Fox for their confidence in me, and Jonny for putting my name forward for the role. While I’m honoured to step up, it’s also bittersweet as it coincides with Jonny’s departure. I’ve greatly enjoyed working with him over the past year and wish him and his family the very best for the future

With a background in both playing and coaching at semi-professional level, as well as extensive time with the Giants, I am eager to share my knowledge with the club’s young players.

Having worked with many of the current first-team squad during my time here, I know how strong our pathway is. It deserves recognition as one of the best in Super League, and I’m excited to continue building on that with our scholars.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, I would like to express my gratitude to the Scholarship Assistant Coaches and staff for their support during the transition and I am looking forward to working alongside them again within my new role.
