JOB VACANCY - Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach

Huddersfield Giants are seeking an experienced and high motivated Strength and Conditioning practitioner to lead the Academy Strength and Conditioning programme.
Huddersfield Giants are a club which prides itself on its youth development system, having produced countless Academy graduates that have gone to have success throughout Super League and the NRL.
Reporting to the Head of Athletic Performance, Head of Youth and Academy Head Coach, the Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach will deliver a high-quality physical development programme focused on the development of strength, speed, aerobic fitness and injury risk reduction, ensuring players are fully prepared for training and competition demands.
The role holder will provide sport science support through the collection and reporting of GPS data, liaising with the Academy Head Coach on training session design and optimal training loads to drive the physical development of Academy players.

The role holder will have significant experience working with young athletes in a professional
sporting environment, working in collaboration with all departments within the multidisciplinary
team to provide the best care and educational support to our young athletes. The successful
candidate will be required to work unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends, to
support the Academy programme, including attending all Academy fixtures.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
• Lead the planning and delivery of Academy gym and pitch-based strength and conditioning sessions, with a specific focus on strength, power, speed and aerobic fitness development
• Track the physical development of all Academy players through regular and periodised testing across the Academy season
• Provide sport science support through GPS monitoring, liaising with the Academy coaching staff on training session design to drive adaptation and performance
• Work in collaboration with the Lead Academy Physiotherapist on injury risk reduction strategies and return-to-play programmes, leading on pitch-based end-stage rehabilitation sessions
• Create weekly and monthly training schedules alongside the Academy Head Coach to identify windows of opportunity for physical development• Assist the Academy Management Team on player recruitment and retention by providing individual and team-based testing reports throughout the Academy season
• Lead on Match Day warm up and other duties as required
• Provide educational workshops and resources to the Academy squad at regular intervals throughout the season
• Contribute to in-house CPD sessions
Person Specifications
Essential
• BSc Sport Science/Strength and Conditioning qualification, or equivalent
• 3 years’ experience delivering Strength and Conditioning provisions to youth athletes in a professional sporting environment
• Experience in delivering fitness testing
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with coaches, players and parents
• Ability to liaise in a professional manner with players, coaches and other members of
the MDT
• Ability to produce clear and actionable written reports
• Good level of IT skills, namely Microsoft Word and Excel
• UKSCA Accredited (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
• Flexible working hours to include evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays and all Academy fixtures
• Clean driving licence and use of own vehicle
• Clear and enhanced DBS
Desirable
• Post-graduate qualification (MSc/PhD) in Sport Science/Strength and Conditioning, or
equivalent
• Experience of working in Rugby League or other contact sports
• Good working knowledge and experience with VALD testing equipment and Catapult
GPS system
• Good working knowledge and experience with Power Bi
