GIANTS TO HOST THIRD ANNUAL COMMUNITY IFTAR

Huddersfield Giants are set to host their third annual Community Iftar at the Accu Stadium on the Wednesday 4th March, as the Super League club continues to strengthen its commitment to community engagement, belonging and inclusion both on and off the fie

Following the success of the previous two events, this year’s Iftar is expected to be the biggest yet, bringing together representatives from faith groups, community organisations, local leaders, supporters and partners for an evening of reflection, dialogue and shared experience during the holy month of Ramadan.

The event is being supported by Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis, Club Ambassador Councillor Masood Ahmed, and Dr Ikram Butt, Founder of the British Asian Rugby Association (BARA), who have worked closely to ensure the Iftar is not just symbolic, but part of a wider, long-term commitment to inclusion and social impact within the Super League and the wider sporting landscape.

Speaking ahead of the event, Richard Thewlis said:

“As a Super League club, we understand that our responsibility goes far beyond what happens on match day. These Iftar events are about creating spaces where people feel welcome, valued and connected. It’s a powerful reminder that sport can be a genuine force for bringing communities together.”

Club Ambassador Councillor Masood Ahmed added:

"This event reflects the best of what Huddersfield stands for – diversity, respect and community spirit. The Giants are not just opening their doors, they are opening conversations. It’s about ensuring everyone feels this club is their club, regardless of background, faith or culture."

Dr Ikram Butt, Founder of BARA, said:

“The Iftar is part of a much bigger journey. Through our heritage project Beyond the Try Line, we are capturing the stories, voices and contributions of South Asian communities in rugby. Events like this bring that heritage to life, creating spaces where people feel seen, heard and inspired to engage with the sport in new ways.”

"The evening will include reflections on Ramadan, the call to prayer, and a shared meal at sunset, with guests also given the opportunity to engage with players, staff and ambassadors, and explore behind-the-scenes areas of the stadium.

"As Huddersfield continues to celebrate its rich diversity, the Giants’ Community Iftar stands as a growing symbol of how a Super League club can use its platform to create lasting social impact, strengthen community bonds, and build a more inclusive future for the game."
