Giants Unleashed in Wigan Win

The Giants took victory at the Brick Community Stadium and were deserving of the wide scoreline at full time.
The game started with the Giants on top, and for the first quarter had all the territory. The breakthrough came on 21 minutes after sustained pressure turned into points at last as the ball shifted right to left, and found the hands of Jacob Gagai. He cut inside, found a gap and went in to break the deadlock!
The Giants doubled their lead just 9 minutes later as French winger Tanguy Zenon dotted down. He too cut inside, reached out and grounded on the line. The original decision was ruled a knock on, but the Captain’s Challenge was used to it’s full potential, as the Giants sent it up for a video review. Video referee Chris Kendall deemed the ball was grounded and Zenon had the opportunity to convert his own try from the tee, and give the Giants a 10 point advantage.
Dreamland hit on the 35 minute mark, when Wigan were caught napping and a dropped ball was pounced on by the returning Niall Evalds. With the Wigan defence in bits, the gap opened up for Evalds to play to the whistle and go in to score.
The hosts did get on the board in the first half, however, when the ball went wide to Eckersley to dive in and put a 4-pointer in just before the hooter.
The lead for the Huddersfield men, 16-4 at the interval.
Debut delight then struck for young Jacob Douglas just 10 minutes after the restart. Tom Burgess turned half back and threw a pinpoint pass out wide for the on-loan Saints man to claim, and evade the Wigan defence to ground in the corner after a brilliant show of pace.
Connor Wrench, back in Super League after a break away from the game, was next on the scoresheet. He found himself with an option on his outside, but tucked and ran it alone from close range to cap off a fantastic debut in Giants colours and put the game nearly beyond any doubt.
Arguably the try of the day came with 16 minutes left to play. The Giants with the shackles well and truly off, offloaded and shifted to Douglas who broke, threw a pass inside towards Jacob Gagai, who had work to do to catch it clean and regather momentum. That he did and popped it up for skipper Adam Clune to race away and score in front of the jubilant Giants faithful. The Giants with a 22 point lead.
Tanguy Zenon stepped up from the boot and added a penalty goal to make the score 34-10 going into the final stanza.
Wigan mustered up a consolation try through Farrell on the Warriors’ left edge, again, just before the hooter, which Smith converted.
The Giants ran out 34-16 winners and were very, very worthy of the scoreline!
