MELLOR SEES MIDDLE AS KEY TO VICTORY AGAINST CATALANS

Alex Mellor talks team bonding in the South of France, playing in better weather and the challenge of the Catalans Dragons

Alex Mellor says the longer stay ahead of tomorrow’s fixture against Catalans Dragons has been beneficial for the squad and allowed them to bond and gel as a team.

“We’ve been here for 3 days which is better than coming and going in the day – we get a bit more time for socialising and bonding as a group” says Mellor.

The Second-Rower build upon promising tryscoring form last season with a good pre-season and hopes to use the drier ground and the better weather as a platform to move the ball quicker against the Dragons.

“There’s a bit of sun and the pitches are a bit firmer – it’s easier to pass the ball without any mud on it! I’m really looking forward to playing in these conditions.”

Mellor believes the Dragons will be a daunting prospect, with a big pack, but knows controlling the middle is going to be key to coming away with the Giants first points of the season.

“They’re a big side, they try to bully you and they’re aggressive and they try and get the ball out on the offload.

“I think the games going to be about controlling their middles and not letting them dominate the game.

“If we get that right, we’ll have a good platform to win the game and come back with the two points.”
